  1. A summary of the key points of each article (purpose, research method, research design, sample, data collection instrument, results).
  2. A description of how these studies individually lead to the research gap that your dissertation study will fill.

Points: 170.5/200.0

Instructors Comments:
Hi Charles, You understood what your articles contained as required but there were APA errors and mechanical areas all over the place . Place check the following for tutorial on writing https://www.thinkingstorm.com/student/Default.aspx Note the gap is what the article recommends for further research. Please use the word "conducted research"-- not carried research

Week 4 - Synthesis and the Research Gap Assignment:

Instructors Comments:
Hi Charles, 1) good intro but state purpose of the writing this assignment first in the first paragraph . That will serve as thesis statement. In that paragraph indicate the layout of the assignment. 2) You seem to have an idea about what synthesis means . Check the following: You said : In analyzing all the research articles, there are some conclusions that can be drawn. Some of the conclusions that can be made are that morale, training and mentoring programs, and communication are important to teacher retention and keeping teachers within the classroom setting( site sources that contributed to this conclusion). Charles -- this bad writing: The other research( cite source ) that has discussed in this paper shows that it is important to determine if morale, training and mentor programs, and communication are issues that need to be analyzed in order to reduce the amount of teachers leaving the profession. Were there studies with common findings? Charles work on you writing you will manage dissertation process.

An understanding of the major historical events, political issues, and trends influencing education in the last 70 years should be reflected in this leadership philosophy. Benchmark - Comparison Paper: Unified and K-8/Union High School Districts

Strategic planning occurs within the established governance and structure of K-12 education. A meaningful strategic plan cannot be developed without a clear mission, vision, and goals that are known and understood by all participants in the strategic planning process. Further, an effective strategic plan cannot be developed without the engagement and support of a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, an effective educational leader can analyze the governance and structure of K-12 educational institutions including both internal and external frameworks and the leadership practices required in these areas.

This assignment concerns unified, union high school, and K-8 school districts. Assume that all districts have distinct attendance boundaries, are led by a superintendent, and are governed by a publicly-elected governing board that is required to make all decisions in public meetings. The districts abide by all pertinent state laws and are funded by the state at a set amount per student.

A unified school district serves kindergarten through grade 12. In some cases, the district may also sponsor a preschool on a campus (PK-12). The district administrative structure includes a superintendent and, depending on the size of the district, there also will be additional administrators to oversee areas such as curriculum, human resources, special education, and facilities. The superintendent also supervises school principals.

An elementary district serves students in kindergarten through grade 8 and may also include a preschool (PK-8). The administrative structure is similar to a unified district in that the total enrollment of the district drives the size of the administrative structure. Elementary schools are held accountable for student achievement on annual state-regulated assessments, with particular attention paid to reading achievement for third graders.

A union high school district serves students in grades 9-12. The administrative structure is driven by the student enrollment. Because high schools are generally larger than elementary schools, individual schools often include assistant principals. Districts that serve high school students (unified or union) are held accountable for their graduation rates, dropout rates and student achievement on annual state-regulated assessments.

 General Requirements:

Use the following information to ensure successful completion of the assignment:

  • This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

  • This assignment requires that at least two additional scholarly research sources related to this topic, and at least one in-text citation from each source be included.

  • Doctoral learners are required to use APA style for their writing assignments. The APA Style Guide is located in the Student Success Center.

  • You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. Refer to the LopesWrite Technical Support articles for assistance.

 Directions:

Write a paper (1,500-2,000 words) that compares governance and structure between a unified school district and a K-8 or union high school district. Include the following in your paper:

  1. Compare the governance and structure between a unified school district and a K-8 or high school district. (Benchmarks C7.2: Analyze the governance and structure of K-12 educational institutions including both internal and external frameworks and the leadership practices required in these areas.)

  2. Discuss what common leadership practices are required for successful strategic planning.

  3. Discuss what stakeholder relations practices are necessary for success in a diverse district. (Benchmarks C7.3: Examine the stakeholder relations practices that are necessary to sustain the diverse learning infrastructure of K-12 education.)

Instructors Comments: Hi Charles, I enjoyed reading your prospectus and your study sounds interesting and beneficial. You have a great start here in your original document and I have reviewed the notes from your professors for revisions. They seem very appropriate and your alignment is tight and an overall good focus. I have added only a few more highlighted for you to review and consider on the one marked up document. Also, the Appendix has a formatting issue you might want to take care of before you go onto your next course. The rubric is something that is the guide for your insertion of content and there are a few places where this will be improved along the way with your Chair. As we discussed in class, and for future reference, your chair will likely be evaluating your prospectus on a scale of 1-2 with 2 being the highest score. It only after your document approval in the AQR 2 Level that it converts to a 3 - that means ready for IRB. I have so enjoyed getting to know you in Residency and I look forward to seeing your success with GCU and beyond! Good work and best of wishes going forward! Dr. Taffer

You will submit these deliverables to your chair in the appropriate modules for the purpose of grading.
